We’re not quite sure when it happened, but at some point, in the not too distant past, somebody decided that you shouldn’t have to dress up in a scary costume before going trick-or-treating at Halloween. We suspect it was a frazzled mother who, after ten years of holding the position of ‘Chief Costume Designer’ for Halloween, ran out of inspiration and decided that it was time to ‘break the mould’ and think a long, long way outside the box. The result now sees young children across the world dressing up in costumes that are scarier through their absurdity than any visual fear factor. However, variety is the spice of life and who says you can’t celebrate All Saints Day, the original reason for Halloween, dressed as Elsa or Olaf from Freeze? Better still, why not embarrass and humiliate your young child by dressing them up as a burger or hot dog and at least guarantee some laughs, even if at their expense!

We are joking, of course, and many a fancy dress costume today is genuinely funny, which is why we decided to create a Funniest Halloween Costume award. While the immediate recipient may feel so proud and happy they have won something, you can bet that won’t even compare to the elation felt back home by the Chief Costume Designer when discovering that she, not you, had won an award!
